More Pillows, Creepy Mr Christie and the First Mince Pie #LittleLoves

Remember I said a little while back, that I was worried I might have peaked too early with regard to Christmas? Well this week the pre-Christmas grumps hit with an almighty thump. That feeling that you’re never going to get on top of the cleaning or write all the Christmas cards. And trying to work out when the heck you’re actually going to fit in the food shop, totally finishes you off.

In an effort to ‘keep it real’, my Monday evening looked a little like this in our house…

Genius huh? A little bit of comedy from Chris Fleming to make you smile.

“WE NEED MORE PILLOWS!” (I *may* have actually said this).

By Tuesday, I was back to my normal slightly-stressy-but-getting-things-into-perspective self. Is it just me who has these crazy half hours sometimes? My family generally ignore me, allowing me to whizz round the house like a whirling dervish!

Aside from that, there were plenty of ‘Little Loves’ worth sharing, so here goes…

Read

I’ve not been great at reading this week, simply because I’ve not had the time. I have ordered a new book though, with the intention of getting some reading done during the Christmas break (who am I kidding?!). Have you read Room? I know that I’m a bit late to this party but I do prefer to read the book before watching a film so that’s my plan.

Do you like to be intentional about your year ahead? At the beginning of every year, I work through a booklet called ‘Unravelling the Year Ahead’.  The idea is to reflect on 2015 and consider what you might like to do differently in 2016. I usually sit down with a friend at the beginning of every year and we share our answers with each other. If you fancy doing it at the beginning of 2017, you can find out more over at Susannah Conway’s blog.

This week I felt compelled to look back on what I had written in January 2016. My ‘Word for the Year’ was ‘TRUST’. What a year of learning to trust it has been! I am planning to unpack my year in a blog post shortly – all that I’ve learnt and the things to be thankful for. Watch this space!

Watched

With my youngest daughter being off school all week with a nasty virus, we’ve had Friends playing on a loop. Believe it or not, I actually caught an episode I’ve not seen before – the one where Ross visits a tanning booth. This is the ONLY show that has me genuinely laughing out loud in every episode. It never gets old does it?

Did you catch Rillington Place on BBC1 this week? Oh my goodness, this was the scariest, most chilling piece of drama I have watched in a very long time. I so desperately wanted to see it through to the end (which of course I did) but it was utterly terrifying. The actor was brilliant, I will never forget Mr Christie’s ‘Dear, dear, dear, dear, dear’ as he put his head around the door to survey his latest murder scene. Seriously good TV available on Catchup if you didn’t see it.

Heard

I finally gave my Michael Buble Christmas album the airing it deserves. This is without a doubt my favourite choice of music for the season. I’m going to treat you to a little bit of ‘All I Want for Christmas’. Enjoy.

Is it ok to admit that I quite like Matt Terry’s Christmas release? If you’ve no idea who I’m talking about, he won Xfactor at the weekend. Trust me when I say that I so didn’t want to like it but as usual, Capital Radio has worked its magic. Gah! The fact that it was written by Ed Sheeran probably helped a great deal.

Wore

I recently discovered Jamberry nail wraps and I love them! I don’t have the best nails in town (don’t look too close) and also don’t particularly enjoy going to a nail salon to get them fixed. These wraps give short stubby nails the perfect lift and there are so many colours and amazing patterns/finishes to choose from!

I thought these ones were perfect for the Christmas party season and it meant I could spend an hour on Wednesday evening giving myself a little TLC. Perfect.

Made

Christmas would not be Christmas without home-made mince pies. I actually don’t really like shop-bought ones, the snob that I am. This whole plateful was wolfed down in one sitting so now it’s time to make some more! I also like to put a big batch in the freezer to keep us going and as an alternative to Christmas pudding which I loathe.

And Lastly

There’s still no snow in The Alps. What’s happened to our weather lately? Utter madness. My crazy husband is refreshing his phone every five minutes in the hope that the forecast is going to change or our impending ‘ski’ trip looks destined for disaster. Keep everything crossed folks!

Have a wonderful weekend one and all. I hope you’ve got some lovely Christmassy activities planned.

  • It will take me a long time to recover from Rillington Place too, but I’m still glad I watched it! The acting was incredible.
Sorry to hear about your Christmas grumps. I’ve probably been more chilled about Christmas than ever this year (that may be why our tree still isn’t up!).
I love your nails! I might have to look into those.
My fingers are crossed for snow for you.

Ha ha thank you. I always feel a bit decadent moaning about the lack of snow but it does kind of spoil a ski holiday! Your tree is STILL not up? At least you will probably be the only one showing yours off on Instagram this weekend! x

  • Morgana

That video is hilarious, and scarily accurate! haha
I watched the first Rillington Place and was so creeped out. It’s such good drama but I need to psyche myself up for the other two episodes I think.
Fingers crossed the Alps get some snow quick! xx

Oh that clip made me giggle, and I totally get you about the crazy half hours we sometimes have. Mine was last night when I walked around the house, muttering to myself about how bloody hard it is to organise Christmas. Oh and then I cried, just to top the craziness off. Thankfully normality has resumed this morning (until the next time lol). Love your nails by the way, and sorry to hear your daughter has been off school with a virus. Have a great week #littleloves x

So glad it isn’t just me Tracey! Why is it we allow ourselves to get so stressed at this time of year? Madness. Glad the tears helped and now you’re out the other side. Have a great weekend. x

  • Oh, I’ve definitely been having the ‘I haven’t done anything and there is no time left’ feeling this past week regarding Christmas… I feel like it has kind of just creeped up on us now. Everything will get done in the end… But I still haven’t found the room for the Christmas shop… Nor ordered it online yet!!

I have read Room, and I’d definitely recommend giving it a read as it is one of my favourite books. I picked the film up last weekend, but have yet to watch it. I’m very much the same in liking to read the book before watching the film.

Unpopular opinion, but I don’t even really like mince pies, and yours look super tasty!

    Have a great weekend!

Oh I know lots of people who don’t like mince pies Jade – you’re not alone! Our household wolfs them immediately though. Glad you enjoyed ‘Room’, I’m looking forward to getting started 🙂

Oh I love the idea of the unravelling the year book, I’m going to check that out. Hope the snow arrives in time for your ski trip!

I love Mince Pies and your homemade ones look delicious. I absolutely love Friends, it’s my go-to show when I’m feeling down/tired/stressed. I much prefer reading the book before watching the film but haven’t read Room yet, it’s on my list! Enjoy your weekend xx

I would highly recommend Elfa, they’re so hard-wearing. Need something half decent for my chewed stumps!

  • Jenny

Oh man I never thought what do you do if there is no snow there for your trip! EEEEK Fingers crossed and toes. Loving the nails speaking of fingers. So festive and pretty. I need to do something with my own pronto. Wow love that you have documented so much on your goals and trust is a good one. I look forward to your blog post on that one babes. Just catching up with everyone’s #littleloves hope you are having a lovely weekend. Happy Holidays.
